Apollo manufactures a range of adhesives that can be applied using a roller coater. These can be divided into:
- liquid polyurethanes including two packs and moisture curing (MCPU)
- reactive hot melt polyurethanes
The roller coating technique applies an even coating of adhesive onto one surface of each bond line. Depending on the construction of the coater it is possible to coat both surfaces of the core material at the same time.
Where MCPUs are being used, after adhesive roller application, a fine water mist is applied to the adhesive to facilitate cure, and the composite is pressed until cured.
For application of reactive hot melt, a heated roller coater is used to apply the melted adhesive. The composite is made and passed through a nip roller to consolidate the bond. It is then left to cure with the moisture in the substrates.
MCPUs can also be applied using a small hand roller where the output does not require an automatic roller coater.
